These fields reflect IMDEA Materials Institute’s strategic scientific priorities and provide the thematic scope in which prospective postdoctoral fellows are expected to develop their individual research proposals.

NOVEL MATERIALS
- Design and synthesis of nano and molecular building blocks and their integration into macroscopic materials and devices
- Novel solutions for high performance structural composites with enhanced multifunctional capabilities
- Exploring the processing-structure-property relationships in metallic alloys

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING
- Improve quality, productivity, cost efficiency and sustainability in current manufacturing paradigms
- Design & development of novel hybrid manufacturing techniques to enable the commercial realization of emerging products in the aero-space, biomedical, energy, automotive and other industrial sectors

INTEGRATED COMPUTATIONAL MATERIALS ENGINEERING
- Integration of simulation tools into multiscale modelling strategies capable of simulating processing, microstructure, properties and performance of engineering materials
- Data-driven design strategies and artificial intelligence for the in-silico design, testing and optimization of new materials

MULTISCALE CHARACTERISATION OF MATERIALS AND PROCESSES
- Microstructure and evolution of materials during processing and under service conditions from the atomic to the macroscopic length scales
- In-situ and in-operando techniques
- Correlation between experiments and multiscale simulations (molecular dynamics, dislocation dynamics, crystal plasticity, finite elements etc.)
